Kathleen H. Cheney, 79, of Tolono passed away at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Amber Rose, Tolono.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at Freese Funeral Home, Tolono, with Rev. Al Simonson officiating.

Burial was at Bailey Memorial Cemetery, Tolono. Visitation was from 4 - 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Tolono Volunteer Fire Department of [or] Tolono United Methodist Church.

Kathleen H. Cheney was born on March 21, 1938, at Des Moines, IA, a daughter to Edith Humphrey. She was raised by Wilbur and Lola Back-Cheney of Williamsburg, Iowa.

She taught in Oregon, IL for two years, Amboy, IL for nine years, and then finished her teaching career at Tolono Unit 7 after teaching there for 23 years. She attended Central College in Pella, Iowa.

She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Brethren Church of North English, IA, and also attended Tolono United Methodist Church. She was inducted into the Unity Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016.

She is survived by a brother, Merrill (Sue) Cheney of Washington, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a brother.
