Gladys Agnes Hrdlicka, 97, of Amana, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Colonial Manor in Amana. Celebration of Life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brosh Chapel.

Gladys was born June 30, 1919, on a farm in rural Johnson County near Amana, the daughter of Charles and Agnes (Yearsa) Schlueter. She graduated from Walford High School. Gladys was united in marriage to Louis E. Hrdlicka on Aug. 19, 1941, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua. She spent her life on their farm in Johnson County, helping her husband in the field driving the tractor, baling hay and wherever needed. She had many hobbies, including crocheting, knitting and sewing, as well as her kolaches. She belonged to the Monroe Farm Bureau Women's Club, was a 4-H leader for 11 years and was a member of the Fairfax and Ely Senior Citizens. She also was a 50-year member of WFLA Lodge 400 and CSA Lodge 137. In December 1999, she and Louis moved to Cedar Rapids.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Linda (Joe)Evers of Amana; a granddaughter, Shelly (Lyle) Wehr of Fairfax; and two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Stephanie Wehr. She also is survived by a loving extended family of stepchildren, stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren, along with her nieces and nephews.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her siblings, Frank and Walter Schlueter, Mamie Asenbrener, Lillian Vorel and Wilma Benish.

Memorials will be directed to the family.

The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Colonial Manor and Essence of Life Hospice for their loving care of Gladys and her family.
