Celebration of life service for Richard E. Smith, 83, Walford, was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 6, at Clover Ridge United Methodist Church, Walford. He died Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Colonial Manor of Amana.

The Rev. Mike Townsley officiated.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be given to Clover Ridge United Methodist Church.

Richard E. Smith was born March 23, 1933, in Webster, the son of Charles F. and Mildred J. (White) Smith. He graduated from North English High School in 1950 and was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict from 1953-1955.

On Aug. 8, 1954, he married Betty N. Reinert at the North English Christian Church, North English. They lived in Webster, Millersburg and Walford since 1997. Dick was the manager of the Harper Quary for 20 years. He also owned and operated the J&C Café in Keswick, worked for Ready Mix in North English and sold Watkins products.

He was a member of the Webster United Methodist Church and later attended the Clover Ridge United Methodist Church in Walford. He enjoyed coffee time with family and friends.

Smith is survived by his wife, Betty, Walford; two daughters, Debra (Gary) Hall, Walford, and Kimberly (Richard) Ebsen, Middle Amana; one granddaughter, Jennifer Ebsen; two great-granddaughters, Arianna Ebsen and Kailee Ebsen; a step-grandson, Jason Hall; a sister, Doris Lockridge, North English, and a sister-in-law, Helen Smith, Stewartville, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles D. Smith, and two sisters, Betty Chitwood and Dorothy Buser.
