Glen F. Johnson, 92, Lynchburg, Va., formerly of New Bedford, Mass., and Marengo, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, at his home in Forest, Va. He was the husband of the late Dorothy Irene McAninch Johnson.

An interment of his cremated remains will be held at a later date in the Marengo Cemetery.

Glen Franklin Johnson was born in Marengo on Aug. 24, 1924, the son of the late Frank and Inez Carnahan Johnson. He graduated from The University of Iowa with a degree in chemical engineering in 1949. He subsequently moved to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 12 years before being transferred to New Bedford to eventually become the plant manager.

He was of the Methodist faith and served in the United States Army during World War II in the Philippines. He served on the board of directors of the United Way in New Bedford; board of directors of Junior Achievement and as chairman of the board at St. Luke’s Hospital. He also served as co-chairman for the Economic Task Force, as president of the Boy’s Club and on the State Medical Board of Massachusetts.

Johnson is survived by two sons, Lanny E. Johnson, Forest, and Gary F. (Lillian) Johnson, Lawton, Okla.; one brother, Dean (Selma) Johnson, Orion, Ill.; three grandchildren, Keri Johnson, Tina Johnson and Mike Cowan; four great-grandchildren, Kaleb Johnson, Jeremiah Johnson, Landon Wilaerfon and Emily Wilaerfon; his former sister-in-law, Eloise Johnson Barr, Sterling, Va., and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother, Worth Johnson.
