Phyllis Von Ahsen Tonne, 86, Williamsburg, died Monday, Nov. 14, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 a.m. Nov. 21, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, with the Rev. Thomas Ogilvie officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg, with a Ladies VFW Auxiliary service at 4 p.m. Memorials are for the St. Paul Lutheran Church or Ghosh Center in Cedar Rapids. Phyllis Jean Royal was born Dec. 7, 1929 in Marengo, Iowa the daughter of Russell William and Helen Louise (Core) Royal. Phyllis grew up in Marengo. She was united in marriage to Loren William Von Ahsen on July 25, 1948, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Marion, Iowa. To this union they were blessed with five children.

After their marriage the couple lived in Mt Vernon before moving to Williamsburg in 1950. Loren died on Jan. 19, 1987. Phyllis later married Lauren Edwin Tonne on June 29, 1994, at the VA Medical Chapel in Iowa City. He later died on April 19, 1998.

Phyllis enjoyed volunteering at the VA Hospital, playing cards and spending time with family. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg and the Williamsburg VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children, Larry (Nancy) Von Ahsen of Amana, Helen (Randy) Ritchie, Kristine and Karen Von Ahsen all of Williamsburg; 7 grandchildren: Rodney Von Ahsen, Brad Von Ahsen, Robert Ritchie, Roger Ritchie, Tammy Von Ahsen, Ricky Ritchie and Ryan Ritchie; 17 great grandchildren; a great, great granddaughter; honorary grandchildren, Sara Whitler, Trisha Kay Wetjen, Kevin Ritchie and Ernie Masa; two sisters, Janet Kulhavy of Walford and Carole Valentine of Blythe, Calif.; and two brothers, William Riley of Loveland, Colo., and Jim Riley, Marion.
