Alfreda Northup was born January 10, 1946 in Delmenhorst, Germany. Her father from Poland and her mother from Russia met while being held captive in a concentration camp in Nazi occupied Germany. With the aid of the Brethren Church in Kinross, Alfreda’s family was brought to the United States in November of 1949. They eventually settled in What Cheer. In 1964 Alfreda graduated from the Sacred Heart Catholic School in Sioux City. Later she married Raymond Northup and the couple had four children. Over the years Alfreda worked at the Sigourney Care Center, Kingsberry Homes and eventually retired from Amana Refrigeration in 2011. Honesty, hard work and generosity were the foundation she built her entire life on. Even though nothing came easily for Alfreda, her children always knew they had a mother that loved them unconditionally. She was a woman of faith and believed whole heartedly in guardian angels. Alfreda enjoyed bowling, fishing, crocheting, gardening, canning, watching movies, traveling and doing anything with her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by Boguslaw and Maria Wawolikopf Sokol; two brothers, Victor and Richard Sokol and two sisters-in-law, Judy and Diane Sokol.

Alfreda is survived by her children, Linda Foubert of North English, Sharon (Dan Shoup) Kriegel of Victor, Mary Lou (Rick Kahler) Schlesselman of Conroy, Michael (Carina) Northup of North English; two sisters, Rita (Rob) Snyder of Pioneer, OH, Susan Sokol of Iowa City; three brothers, Sigmund Sokol of St. Helen, OR, Henry (Randi) Sokol of California and Larry Sokol of Virginia. Grandma Alf also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
