Eugene Thomas Plotz, age 85 of Oxford, formerly of Williamsburg, passed away Tuesday, November 8th, 2016, following an extended illness. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 12, 2016, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg, with Rev. Thomas Ogilvie officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Williamsburg, with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, November 11, 2016, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.

A memorial fund has been established.

Eugene is survived by his wife Iola Grauer Plotz; a son Kenneth Plotz of Williamsburg; a daughter Susan (Scott) Yung of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren Kelley (Jeremy) Reierson, Barry (Ashlee) Plotz, Shelley Plotz (Jason Geltz), Tammy (Richard) Oftedahl, Carrie (Eric) Mercer; 15 great-grandchildren Kylie, Kaley, Kelby, Jeremy Reierson, Braden and Braylee Plotz, Trenton, Allie, Preston, Lillie Geltz, Jaden Pfannebecker, Peyton and Melisa Spreeman, Gaige and Easton Mercer; a step-son Dennis (Barb) Grauer; a step-daughter Sue Ellen Grauer; four step-grandchildren, Anna (Chris) Boals, Aaren Grauer, Tyler Grauer, and Cara Grauer; a step-great grandson Caleb Boals; a sister Mary Ellen (Max) Warren; a brother Ralph (Linda) Plotz; and two sisters-in-law Joyce Plotz and Judie Rosenbalm. He was preceded in death by his first wife Selma Wardenburg Plotz, his parents, and three brothers Ronald, Richard, and Bernard Plotz.

Eugene Plotz was born March 26, 1931, in Washington Township, rural Marengo, to Charlie and Gertie Kimm Plotz. He received his education in the Iowa County schools. Eugene proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army from 1952-1954, stationed overseas in Korea. He married Selma Amanda Esther Wardenburg on April 21, 1956, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Together they had two children, Kenneth and Susan. Selma passed away in 2003. Eugene later married Iola Grauer at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Eugene retired from Amana Refrigeration after 42 ½ years. He continued working at Colony Point for 14 years. He happily spent many nights and weekends helping his relatives with their farming operations. He was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church. Eugene enjoyed helping his grandchildren deliver the Cedar Rapids Gazette for eight years. He loved listening to and dancing to Barefoot Becky and playing cards. He especially enjoyed visiting with family members and reminiscing about the family history.
