Celebration of life service for Richard A. Zuber, 71, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Homestead. He died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016, at Colonial Manor, Middle Amana.

The Rev. Terry Small will officiate at the service.

Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 17, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg.

Memorials are for St. John Lutheran Church or Essence of Life Hospice in Amana.

Richard Allan Zuber was born March 11, 1945, near Homestead, the son of Willard and Marjorie (Leahy) Zuber. He attended St. John Lutheran School and graduated from Williamsburg High School.

Dick married Barbara Jean Weisbrod Oct. 19, 1969, in Cedar Rapids. They were blessed with three children. He was employed by Amana Refrigeration for many years, Comfort Inn at Little Amana and Alcoa in Williamsburg, retiring in 2008.

Being a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church near Homestead, he had served as an elder, trustee and financial secretary along with many other committees. He has also served as president of Lutheran Interparish School P.T.L. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, making wine, playing cards, gardening, watching the Green Bay Packers, Cubs and the Hawkeyes. His especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and farming with his brother Dale.

Zuber is survived by his wife, Barbara, Williamsburg; three children: Allan (Sandy) Zuber, Walford; Tricia Williams, Coggon, and Kim (Ben) Hulseberg, Williamsburg; seven grandchildren, Ashley and Courtney Zuber, Cassie and Logan Williams, Wes, Zoe and Wil Hulseberg; two brothers: Dale (Ruth) Zuber, Homestead, and Larry (Fran) Zuber, North Liberty; three sisters, Karen Dirks, Scotch Grove; Kathy (Dave) Jones, Williamsburg, and Marty Gahring, Albany, Ga., and his mother-in-law, Shirley Weisbrod, Emmetsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Max Dirks, and his father-in-law, Wally Weisbrod.
