Funeral Mass for Jerry J. Westphal, Millersburg, was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, North English. He died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at his home.

Fr. David Wilkening officiating at the service.

Burial was in the St. Bernard’s Cemetery near Millersburg.

A general memorial fund has been established.

Jerry J. Westphal was born Oct. 18, 1938, in State Center, the son of James F. and Margarite J. (Gilgen) Westphal. He graduated from State Center High School in 1956 and attended Marshalltown Community College and the University of Iowa.

He married Mary Catherine Lacy on May 17, 1969, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, North English. After they married, they lived in the Millersburg area. He was a carpenter, farmer and worked at Kinze Manufacturing. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, North English. He enjoyed reading, woodworking and spending time with his family, especially playing with his grandchildren.

Westphal is survived by his wife, Mary, Williamsburg; his children: Mark Westphal and Michael Westphal, both Williamsburg; Marie Westphal, Eagle River, Alaska; Monica Westphal, Chicago, Ill,; Martha (James) Bueti, San Francisco, Calif.; Marilyn Westphal and Matt (Mandi) Westphal, all Williamsburg; four grandchildren and three brothers, Bruce Westphal, Indiana, and Dennis Westphal and Tim Westphal, both Marshalltown.

He was preceded by his parents; a sister, Joyce Wade and a brother, Gayle Westphal.
