Chuck Wakeley, 65, Malcom, died Sept. 17, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

An open house will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Malcom Auditorium with the Rev. Craig Johnson, Calvary Baptist Church, Grinnell, speaking at 6 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Calvary Baptist Church, Grinnell; Harvest Baptist Church, Williamsburg, or the Malcom Veterans Memorial Fund.

Chuck Wakeley was born July 20, 1951, in Grinnell, the son of John “Jack” and Anna Mae McNaul Wakeley. He lived in Fremont for a few years and then was raised in the Malcom area. He was a 1969 graduate of BGM High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

On Dec. 12, 1970, he married Judith Mae Van Wyngarden, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. While he served in the Army, the couple lived in Virginia and after his discharge in 1973, they moved to Grinnell. In 1975, the couple moved to Malcom.

He was employed for 20 years at the U.S. Post Office in Grinnell as a mail carrier, clerk and later as a supervisor. He was the Postmaster in Brooklyn for 15 years and retired in January of 2007. During his retirement, the couple worked as RV camp hosts at the Amana RV Park and in the Rio Grande Valley area in Texas during the winter months. For the past 10 years they have been full-time RV living.

He was a member of the American Legion.

Chuck’s focal points in life were his family and work; he knew the value of both. He was very fond of his two grandchildren and loved sharing his time with them. He enjoyed restoring several homes in Malcom and antiques. The Wakeley’s owned and operated “Mansion Antiques” in Malcom.

Wakeley is survived by his wife, Judy, Malcom; his mother, Anna Mae, Malcom; two daughters, Wendy (Doug) Cottrell, Malcom, and Tammy Wakeley, Marengo; two grandchildren, Dalton and Paige Cottrell, Malcom; six sisters, Janet (Richard) Kirby, Malcom; Linda (Butch) Grim, Bloomfield; Carol Graff, Brooklyn; Donna (Lynn) Baustian, Brooklyn; Sue (Stan) Altemeier, Newton, and Julie (Rick) Scott, Hamlin, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.
