Gary B. Faas, 79, Zellwood, FLa., formerly of Williamsburg, died Thursday, May 29, 2008, at home surrounded by his family.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 3712 Northside Parkway, Building 400, Suite 300, Atlanta, Ga. 30327, attention Katie King.

Gary B. Faas was born on a farm in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Roxie (Ingram) Faas. He graduated from Iowa State University, Ames, in 1950, with a bachelors of Science degree in agronomy. After college, he served in the United States Army as an artillery officer.

After the service, he worked for the Ralston Purina Company as a salesman and sales manager for several years. He returned to take over the family farm when his father retired.

In 1971, he moved his family to Cape Coral, Fla., where he became a realtor and broker, opening his own firm, the Property Place, in the early 1980s. He and his wife retired to Zellwood in 2002. While in Zellwood, he worked for the Zellwood Golf Course.

He had a love of bicycling that was contagious. Gary was one of the founding members of the Caloosa Riders Bicycle Club of Fort Myers. He also served as the club president. Gary worked diligently to advocate for additional bicycle paths throughout Lee County.

Faas is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Janice Marie (Weber) Faas; two sons, Douglas Faas and wife Diane, and Timothy Faas; two, daughters, Sarah Faas and Mary Picard and husband Henry; seven grandchildren, Wendy, Jennifer, Christopher, Stacy, Travis, Chelsea and Mitchell, and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lauren Faas and Lee Faas, and one sister, Jeanette Mulligan.
