Life Story for Jeannette Black

Williamsburg-M. Jeannette Black was born July 15, 1919, near Conroy, the daughter of Charles and Frances (Hammell) Bavis. She graduated from Hilton Consolidated School in Conroy in 1937. Jeannette has lived in the Iowa County area most all of her life.

Jeannette was united in marriage to Clyde Arthur Black on May 15, 1938 at her parents home in Conroy.

She has worked as a Postmistress in Conroy, Browns Hardware in Marengo and was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, playing Bridge, baking pies and cookies, she especially enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren.

Jeannette passed Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg at the age of 96 years.

She is survived by her children: Don (Sharon) Black of Newton, Sue (David) Bengford of Marion and Gary (Rose) Black of Lena, IL; 6 grandchildren: Andy (Colleen) Black, Coleen (Brad) Hubler, Carrie (Pat) Mick, Chris (John) Shannon, Diane (Brian) Sloan and Jennifer (Scott) Livermore and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband 2005 and two brothers: Charles Bavis and Thomas Bavis.

Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from1:00 pm until service time.
