Celebration of life for Dr. Gary G. Shoemaker, 74, Springfield, Mo., will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 30, at the North English Christian Church, with a luncheon to follow at Knoll Ridge Country Club. He died Dec. 26, 2015, at his home.

A memorial fund has been established.

Dr. Gary Glen Shoemaker was born Nov. 11, 1941, in Waterloo, the son of Glen and Velma Shoemaker. He served as coordinator of recreation and leisure studies at Missouri State University until retiring.

He and Phyllis Reed were married June 14, 1964, at the Christian Church, North English.

Dr. Shoemaker is survived by his wife of 51 years, Phyllis; one son, Brian, and children, Anika and Amelia, Parker, Colo.; one daughter, Elizabeth Kevil, her husband, Michael, and children, Joshua and Daniel, Parker; his mother, Velma Shoemaker, Springfield; an aunt, Lillian Shoemaker, Cedar Falls; sister-in-law, Linda Lee, North English; brother-in-law, John Reed and wife, Jeannie, and sister-in-law, Kay Reed, all Springfield; niece, Amy Andreassen, her husband Brant, and their children, Grace, Cooper and Whit, North English; niece, Nicole Reed, Brooklyn, N.Y.; niece, Lindsay Reed, Portland, Ore., and many special cousins and friends.
