Richard L. Jacoby, age 78, of Victor, Iowa died May 7, 2016, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Richard had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and had lived at Winsor Manor in Grinnell and the Hiawatha Care Center.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 15, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with the family present at 4:00 p.m., at Smith Funeral Home in Victor, Iowa.

The funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 16, 2016, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Victor, Iowa, officiated by Father Ron Hodges of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell.

Interment will take place at Victor Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Bradley Roth, Justin O'Halloran, Cody Frahm, Bryan O'Halloran, Jason Roethler, Bethany Jacoby, and Brian Scanridge.

Memorials may be designated to Iowa Knights of Columbus Foundation or St. Mary's Capital Building Project and mailed to the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 485, Victor, Iowa 52347.

Richard L. Jacoby Sr. was born April 17, 1938, at the family farm house in rural Elma, Iowa. He was the fourth child of nine to the parents, Merle E. and Leona Hoverman Jacoby. Richard attended school in Elma, completing his high school diploma at Immaculate Conception. He entered into the United States Army in June 7, 1956 and was honorably discharged on June 6, 1958. He attended Gates business College in Waterloo following his time in the service. He married Penelope Beran on September 17, 1960, following six months of dating.

Richard worked at varies jobs in Waterloo. In 1967, the couple and their five girls moved to Victor where he began working as an accountant at Amana Refrigeration. Their son, Richard Jr. was born shortly thereafter. Richard retired in 2006, after 39 years with the company.

He took his 1st degree to join the Knights of Columbus March 1, 1957. He held several volunteered position with KC's including, financial secretary, Grand Knight, District Deputy, Football Frenzy Chairman (Special Olympics), Faithful Navigator and Trustee for the 4th degree. He was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor as well as St. Mary's in Grinnell. He was also a member of the Victor American Legion, Post 54 and The Heritage Agency. He was proud to receive the award as Regional Outstanding Senior Volunteer for the Heritage Agency 2012 and get his picture with the Governor of Iowa. He also served on the Board for REA in Conroy which helped disabled adults working.
Richard loved to golf and was active with the Amana VIP Golf Tournament; he could be seen selling Tootsie rolls for the Special Olympics.

He loved his family, golf and was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed taking his grandkids to Hawkeye games. He attended many of his grandkids games and could be heard loudly in the stands cheering. He never turned down ice cream and would take the kids for ice cream cones at the drop of the hat.

Richard is survived by his six children, Kim Jacoby of Cedar Rapids; Bridget (Mark) Ringgenberg of Oskaloosa; Traci (Warren) Frahm of Victor; Jennifer (Mike) O'Halloran of Tualatin, OR; Jeanne (Steve) Roethler of Cedar Rapids; Rick (Karla) Jacoby of Grinnell, his siblings Francis (Myrna) Jacoby of Waterloo; James (Shirley) Jacoby of Evansdale; Dan Jacoby (MaryJo Jordan) of Waterloo; Sandra (Robert) Quinn of Glennville, MN; MaryJean Cartney of Byron, MN. His 17, grandchildren, Brad Roth of Grinnell; Wes O'Halloran of Lynnville; Justin (Jen) O'Halloran of Barnes City; Nick (Erin) O'Halloran of Victor; Megan Ringgenberg of Hills; Brandt Ringgenberg of Oskaloosa; Cody Frahm; JJ (Kim) Frahm; Britni (Beau) Jack of Victor; Kelle (Jonathan) Alward of Tualatin, OR; Bryan (Deanna) O'Halloran of Tucson, AZ; Jason (Katie) Roethler, Victoria Roethler of Cedar Rapids; Stephanie Roethler and Ryan Lukaszka of Vinton; Brandi Roethler and Jordan Netolicky of Swisher; Bethany and Sarah Jacoby of Grinnell.; His 18 great grandchildren with two more on the way.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his three siblings, Kathleen, Wayne, and John, and also his ex-wife, Penelope.
