Ruth M. Huedepohl, 87, of Brooklyn, IA Iowa, died on Monday, March 7, 2016, at the Brooklyn Community Estates.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2016, at St. James Lutheran Church in Victor with Rev. Michael Kolesar, pastor of St. James Lutheran Church and Rev. Dr. Wilfred Karsten officiating. Organist will be Pam Cronbaugh. Casket Bearers will be Dwight Huedepohl, Steve Huedepohl, Arlin Karsten, Dale Werning, Jason Werning and Scott Werning. Burial will be in the Victor Memorial Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor beginning 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and the family will be present at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to St. James Lutheran Church or to the Christian Opportunity Center in Pella, IA and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 485, Victor, IA 52347.

Ruth was born on October 29, 1928, in Newhall, IA to Arthur and Emma Wiese Werning. She was raised in Newhall and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Ruth graduated from Newhall High School with the Class of 1946. She received her teaching certificate from the Lutheran Teaching College in River Forest, IL. After her education, she taught elementary students at St. John's Lutheran School in Newhall.

On November 25, 1961, she was united in marriage to Don Huedepohl at St. John's Lutheran Church in Newhall and to this union was born one daughter, Carolyn. The family operated a grain and livestock farm near Brooklyn. She was a mother, a homemaker and was very involved in the day-to-day operation of the farm. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, sewing and church activities.

She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Victor, the Women's Missionary Society of the church, the Victor Congregate Meals Program and the South Brooklyn Social Service Community Club.

She is survived by her husband, Don Huedepohl of Brooklyn; one daughter, Carolyn Huedepohl of Pella; one sister, Lorene (Alfred) Karsten of Marengo, IA; three brothers, Duane (Bonnie) Werning of Shellsburg, IA, Wilfred (Doris) Werning of Van Horne, IA and Vernon (Tammy) Werning of Newhall, IA; one brother-in-law, Richard (Esther) Huedepohl of Brooklyn, IA; and three sisters-in-law, Kathy Werning of Vinton, IA, Pat Werning of Cedar Rapids, IA and Beverly Werning of Waterloo, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Delbert, Merlin, Charles and LeRoy Werning.
