Margaret Pope, 93, of Victor, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at Brooklyn Community Estates.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present at 4:00 p.m. for the rosary and a scripture service at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 13, 2015, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor with Rev. Brian Shepley, pastor of the church, officiating. Music will be provided by Marilyn Kriegel, organist and the church choir. Casket Bearers will be grandchildren Jeff Gryp, Janelle Larkin, Brad Schafbuch, Dawn Thys, Julie Cline and Steve Kriegel. Honorary Bearers will be grandchildren, Scott, Greg, Brian, Johnette, Joel, Jolene, Mark, Renae, Matt, Doug and Steve. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Victor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Margaret Pope Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 485, Victor, Iowa 52347.

Margaret was born on January 10, 1922, to James and Dorothy Peiffer McGarry in rural Victor. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from St. John's High School in 1939.

On January 7, 1941, she was married to Merle Pope at St. Bridget Church in Victor. The couple farmed for several years near Millersburg and later near Victor before moving into Victor in 1954. The couple were blessed with four daughters.

Margaret was employed at HLV schools as the secretary for the superintendent for 25 years.

She enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren, bowling, playing cards, golfing and traveling to Europe and throughout the United States. Margaret was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society, a 75-year member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary and a long time member of the Belle Plaine Country Club.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Jean (John) Gryp of Victor, Joan(Gary) Schafbuch of Victor, Mary Ellen Kriegel of Toledo, and Marcia (Jim) Shults of Grinnell; two sisters, Dorothy (Ralph) Nogal of Bellingham, Washington and Genevieve Davis of Williamsburg; 16 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Merle of 55 years; her parents; three brothers, Edward, Jim and John McGarry; one sister, Teresa Albert; and her son-in-law, Raymond Kriegel and granddaughter, Val Schafbuch.
