A Mass of Christian Burial for Leo R. Mellecker, 80, of Hills will be held Friday, November 13, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hills with Father Michael Spiekermeier officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Stanislaus Cemetery in rural Hills. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 12, from 4 – 8 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a Rosary at 4 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Hills 1st Responders and Lake Miami Conservation. Leo R. Mellecker died Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Leo Richard Mellecker was born November 28, 1934 in Riverside, Iowa, the son of Cletus and Rita (Rummelhart) Mellecker. He graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in Riverside and served his country in the United States Army. On June 28, 1958 he was united in marriage to Lois Jordan in Muscatine, Iowa. Leo worked for farmers and on the family farm, and also in construction for many years at Frantz Construction, Mel Green Construction and Pat Moore Construction. After retirement he mowed the grass at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the National Wild Turkey Federation, Duck's Unlimited, Hills Town and Country, and an honorary member of the Hill's Fire Department. Leo enjoyed hunting, fishing, fast and slowpitch softball, attending turkey and duck banquets, woodworking, and camping. A highlight of the year was the family campout at Lake Miami on Father's Day weekend, where Leo would fry fish for everyone.

Survivors include his wife, Lois of Hills, three children: Karen (Scott) Butterbaugh of Riverside, Iowa, Terri (Dave) Doehrmann of Marengo, Iowa, Keith (Brenda) Mellecker of Columbus Jct., Iowa, five grandchildren: Joseph, Alison and Melissa (Kollin) Orris, Paul Doehrmann and Joscelin Doehrmann, four siblings: Robert (Kathy) Mellecker and Catherine (Marv) Simon both of Riverside, Iowa, Lois Zeman and Marcia Mellecker both of Hills, Iowa, and his yellow lab, Decoy.

Preceding Leo in death were his parents and one sister, Rosie Cress.
