Beverly Rose Griggs, age 84 of Marengo, died Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital.

Memorial Service: 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 13, 2015, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Rev. Andrew Gray officiating. Inurnment will be in the Marengo Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.

Beverly Rose Hannon was born January 21, 1931 in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of James J. Hannon and Florence Rose Larson Hannon.

She attended the Moline schools, and married James L. “Jake” Griggs on July 1, 1949 in Marengo. Early in her marriage, Bev worked at Amana Refrigeration. With the arrival of children, Bev was a homemaker, and mother extreme doing her own home remodeling projects and raising her two sons.

She was an exceptional Cub Scout den mother and actively enjoyed the organization. Bev was a constant with the American Legion Post 76 Auxiliary, attending to her duties as cake and pie cutter for bingo and other events. She regularly attended St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Marengo. Bev lived only a block from Rose Haven Nursing Home and faithfully visited friends and others there. She enjoyed kidding and joking with people, loved dressing in costume for holidays, and in her auxiliary uniform for Legion events.

In earlier years, Bev and Jake enjoyed traveling to California and Arizona to visit family and friends. She was an avid bowler at Lucky 6 Lanes, on the Women’s League and also with her husband and friends.

Bev is survived by her sons, Theodore “Ted”, and Timothy (Linda), all of Marengo; grandsons, Trevor (Mary) Griggs of Cedar Rapids, Trent Griggs of Emmetsburg, and Seth (Amanda) Griggs of Victor; great-grandchildren, Sean and Jillian, Harmony, Alicia, Alexis, Tamion and Bernard; and a sister Barbara Vondracek of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James L. “Jake” in 2011, two brothers, Richard and James Hannon, and a sister Betty in infancy.
