Albert A. Jagnow III, 73, of North Liberty, died peacefully from complications of heart disease on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, with his wife and son beside him.

The family will greet friends Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service. A memorial service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Private burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. The family requests no flowers and that memorials be directed to Christ the King Church organ fund.

Al was born April 18, 1942, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Albert A. Jagnow II and Ardath H. Goettsch.

Growing up in Dubuque, he graduated from Dubuque Senior High School.

Al attended the University of Iowa, graduating with a B.A. in physics in 1964, and a master's in education in 1969.

Al was a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Iowa City. While attending church in 1963, Albert met his future wife, Karin Lund. The couple were united in marriage on July 1, 1972.

Al taught as a high school teacher in North English, and junior high teacher for South East Junior High in Iowa City. In the late 1970s, Al transitioned to working in the early information technology sector, consulting and repairing computer hardware. In 1981, he started working for the University of Iowa at the Weeg Computer Center. He continued working for the University of Iowa, Information Technology Services department, until his retirement from the university in 2004.

Al held an Extra class amateur radio license with the call sign N0PFV. He was a member of the Iowa City amateur radio club. He was a member of the Iowa Grotto spelunking group and, as part of that organization, helped develop a key piece of climbing safety equipment that revolutionized the climbing industry. He was also an avid photographer with a love of nature photography.

Al is survived by his wife, Karin; his son, Albert A. Jagnow IV (Jenny) of Coralville; two grandchildren, Marissa and Alexander; and brothers, Paul Jagnow of Iowa City, David Jagnow (LaVonne) of Albuquerque and Mark Jagnow (Connie) of Oxford. He was preceded in death by his parents.
