Joan E. Heyesen, 78, Marengo, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015, at Marengo Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at a later date.

Joan Elaine Heyesen was born Oct. 13, 1936, in rural Parnell, the daughter of Lyle and Leora Claypool Woodward. She attended Marengo schools and graduated from Iowa Valley High School. She was employed by the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for several years and retired from there.

Heyesen is survived by two sons, Randy, Ladora, and Terry, Marengo; eight grandchildren, Robert Ritchie, Cedar Rapids; Roger Ritchie (Brook), Williamsburg; Tami Von Ahsen (Kevin) Groves, Sara Whitler (Kenny), Marengo; Ricky Ritchie (Jennie), Cedar Rapids; Ryan Ritchie (Jessica), Marion; Kevin Ritchie (Kyla), Marengo, and Tricia Wetjen (Ashley), Marengo; 17 grandchildren, Kay, William, Sabrina, Shana, Shea, Hannah, Elaina, Rashelle, Kendalynn, Pipa, Piper, Makale, Pitabell, Autumn, Ailea, Eleri and Porter, and one great-great-grandchild, Braelyn Barton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Herman and Donald.
