Williamsburg-George Samuel Klingler was born December 14, 1939, in Bellaire, Texas, the son of Eugene L. and Margaret E. (Daniels) Klingler.

He received his undergraduate degree from Bucknell University, his masters from The University of Illinois, and his doctorate from The University of Iowa. George served in the US Army from 1962 to 1966.

He was united in marriage to Nancy Ellison in 1962 at Westbury, Long Island, NY; to this union they were blessed with a son. Nancy died in 1991.

George was later united in marriage to Judith Ann Rodman in 1992 in Iowa City. He worked as a communications professor and associate dean of the Division of Continuing Education for the University of Iowa. While at Iowa, he served on the board of National Public Radio as programing chairman. He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Men’s Breakfast Fellowship, Kiwanis Club, and before moving to Williamsburg, Rotary.

After retirement, he explored material art and became an accomplished jewelry maker. He was a train and tractor enthusiast, a radio broadcast aficionado, collector of antique tools and was a voracious reader, consummate tinkerer and dedicated grandfather.

George passed away Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital surrounded by family at the age of 75 years.

He is survived by his wife Judy of Williamsburg; their four children: Keith Klingler (Maura Stevenson) of Columbus, OH, David Rodman (Kelly) of Chicago, IL, Doug Rodman (Marie) of Minneapolis, MN and Christy Axmear (Andrew) of North English, IA; seven grandchildren: Allison Klingler, Jack and Libby Rodman, Davis, Annie, Charlie and Raif Axmear; and a brother: James Klingler (Margaret) of Lansdown, PA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nancy, three brothers: Eugene Jr, Richard and John.

Celebration of Life Memorial service will be 11:00 am Monday, September 14, 2015 at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Williamsburg. Pastor James Parks will officiate. Memorials are for St. Paul United Methodist Church. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg are caring for the family and arrangements.
