Janet Slaymaker, 78

Memorial service for Janet M. Slaymaker, 78, Marengo, was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. She died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, at Marengo Memorial Hospital.

The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service.

Memorials may be made to Iowa Valley Community Schools, Essence of Life Hospice or Safe Haven of Iowa County.

Janet Mae Slaymaker was born Oct. 24, 1936, in Sac City, the daughter of Lewis J. and Helen M. Bruns Hollrah. She graduated from Mitchellville High School in 1955. She worked at Amana Refrigeration for several years as an inspector of the Radar Range and side-by-side lines. She also worked at Iowa Valley Elementary School as a cook for many years. She enjoyed sports and loved attending many games and meets over the years. She also enjoyed working in her yard.

Slaymaker is survived by her daughter, Angie (Randy) Carney, Marengo; her son, Anthony “Tony” (Wynnette) Slaymaker, Riverside; four grandchildren, Lyndsey Carney, Marengo; Holly (John) Hinshaw, Marengo, and Eli and Stella Slaymaker, Riverside; one sister, Virginia Remsburg, Phoenix, Ariz., and her beloved four-legged grandbaby, “Braydee.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Gene, Bob, Duane and Bill Hollrah; two sisters, Dorothy Hollrah and Sandra Fuller, and her loyal companions, Maggie and Britt.
