Edward Van Dee, 82

Funeral service for Edward G. Van Dee, 82, Marion, was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. He died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha.

Graveside service was held at 2 p.m. at Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.

A memorial fund has been established.

Edward G. Van Dee was born Sept. 29, 1932, the son of Augustine and Margaret (Holderness) Van Dee. He was very proud to be a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enlisted Feb. 8, 1951, as part of the 407th Combat Engineers and served 18 months in Korea with the 194th Combat Engineers. He was discharged Feb. 7, 1954.

He married Wanda Collett March 5, 1966, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Williamsburg.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Marion, and American Legion Post 298, Marion. He retired from Torrance Electric March 1, 1998. He enjoyed being outdoors and feeding the birds, but his pride and joy was his grandson, Jaden.

Van Dee is survived by his wife, Wanda; one son, Bradley Alan; grandson, Jaden Daniel; siblings, Mary Brown, Cedar Rapids; Arnold Mike (Beverly) Van Dee, Cedar Rapids; Florence (Robert) Moellers, Cedar Rapids; Sarah Martens, Cedar Rapids; Carl (Sandra) Van Dee, California; Betty Lou McGee, Marshalltown; his mother-in-law, Lemira Collett; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Hudson, Wellman; Elizabeth Van Dee, Buffalo, Mo.; Betty Van Dee, Vining; brother-in-law, Fred Hotchkiss, Texas; special cousin, Helen Mendenhall, Cedar Rapids, and several nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his children from his first marriage, Marijane, Steve (Donna), Janice and Scott Van Dee; one granddaughter; two step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Daniel Alan; brothers, John Van Dee, Andrew Van Dee, Donald Van Dee; sisters, Ida (Robert) Mahan and Grace Hotchkiss; brother-in-law, Ray Hudson, and father-in-law, Ray Collett. He was also preceded in death by another child.
