Celebration of life service for Maxine Wade, 102, North English, was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at the Powell Funeral Home, North English. She died Friday, May 16, 2014, at the English Valley Care Center, North English.

The Rev. Michelle Williamson officiated at the service.

Burial was in the North English Cemetery.

Memorials may be made for the North English United Methodist Church or the Senior Dining Center, North English.

Maxine Ruth Wade was born June 22, 1911, in North English, the daughter of Murrell Knight and Rose Carolina Baure Hatter. She lived in North English all of her life. She graduated from North English High School in 1930 and Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines in 1932. She worked at Mr. Off’s Law Firm for over 50 years.

She married George M. Smith Nov. 24, 1934. They had one son, George Frederick Smith. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1984. He died March 24, 1994.

She married Leo F. Wade Sept. 6, 1995, in Hannibal, Mo. He died April 15, 1997.

She was a member of the North English United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Eastern Star and Rebekkah Lodge and was a former member of the VFW Auxiliary.

She enjoyed vacationing in Colorado and following Iowa Hawkeye football with George.

Wade is survived by one son, George Frederick (Debbra) Smith, Winthrop; two grandsons, Andrew (Alison) Smith and Chad Smith, all Cedar Rapids, and one brother, Robert Hatter, Ottawa, Ill.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Helen Peterson.
