Margaret Welsh, 86

Funeral Mass for Margaret E. Welsh, 86, Williamsburg, was held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 14, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Williamsburg. She died Friday, April 11, 2014, at her home.

The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service and was also organist. Musical selections included “Be Not Afraid,” “Lord of the Dance” and “Holy God.” Lector was Dave Malloy. Eucharistic minister was Pat McDonough. Servers were Vic Malloy and Cavin Malloy.

Burial was in St. Michael Cemetery, Holbrook. Casket bearers were Tom Welsh, Bob Welsh, Neil Welsh, Joshua Welsh, Michael Welsh and Reed Grabin.

Memorials may be made to St. Michael’s Cemetery Fund.

Margaret Ellen Welsh was born Sept. 14, 1927, near Parnell, the daughter of John Michael and Ellen Theresa (Clear) Curry. She graduated from Parnell High School in 1945 and Marycrest College, Davenport, in 1949. After college, she worked at Alcoa in Bettendorf and later at Quaker Oats, Cedar Rapids.

She married John James Welsh Aug. 1, 1953, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Parnell. The couple made their home on the family farm east of Williamsburg.

Her husband died Dec. 17, 1996. She remained on the farm for three years until moving to Williamsburg. She worked as a front desk clerk at the Best Western Hotel, Williamsburg, for 18 years.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Williamsburg. She enjoyed playing bridge and was very involved in her grandchildren’s lives.

Welsh is survived by two sons, Joseph (Christine) Welsh, Viola, Ill., and Daniel Welsh, Iowa City; three grandchildren, Joshua (Jennifer) Welsh, Davenport; Jessica Terry, Veedersburg, Ind., and John Luke Welsh, Williamsburg; one great-granddaughter Emily Terry, and one sister, Kathleen (Glenn) Medhus, Moline, Ill.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
