Mikel Roggentien, 61

Mikel R. Roggentien, 61, Marengo, died Sunday, March 23, 2014, at his home after a long, valiant battle with cancer. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Mikel Robert Roggentien was born May 23, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Robert G. and Ann M. Shramek Roggentien. He graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1971.

He married Barbara Bral May 1, 1971, in Webster City. The couple made their home and raised four children there. For the past 27 years, he was the owner and operator of Roggentien Salvage in Marengo, a family-owned business for 78 years. He loved his work, friends and family. He most enjoyed the annual family vacation to Marco Island, Fla.

Roggentien is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara; his son, Robert (Lindsey), Chicago, Ill.; three daughters, Tascha (Kirk) Naber, Overland Park, Kan.; Traci (Partha) Nandi, New York, N.Y., and Christina Roggentien, West Des Moines; three grandchildren, Lauren and Cameron Naber and Jayden Nandi; a granddaughter to be born in April; his mother, Ann Roggentien, Williamsburg, and one sister, Suzette Roggentien, Gladstone, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert “Bob” G. Roggentien, in 1977.
