Eva Johnson, 91

Funeral service for Eva C. Johnson, 91, Belle Plaine, was held Wednesday, March 26, at First Lutheran Church, Belle Plaine. She died Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo.

The Rev. Dean Duncan officiated at the service. Organist was Jolene Blanchard.

Burial was in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Luzerne. Casket bearers were Bill Gile, Alan Faas, Glen McElroy, Mark McGowan, Ross Johnson and Paul Christinson. Honorary casket bearers were Megan Johnson, Kristin Thompson and Kara Chrystal.

A memorial fund has been established.

Eva Charlotte Johnson was born Dec. 8, 1922, in rural Keystone, the daughter of Fred and Eva Schroer Hartkemeyer. She attended country schools as a youth.She enjoyed gardening and quilting.

She married Donald Johnson Feb. 25, 1949, at First Lutheran Church, Belle Plaine. They farmed near Koszta until 1982 and moved into Belle Plaine in 2002. He died in 2006. She entered Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo, in November 2012.

Johnson is survived by two sons, Charley (Kandy) Johnson, Belle Plaine, and Darrel (Margaret) Johnson, Marengo; one daughter, Elizabeth (Larry) Thompson, Luzerne; four grandchildren, Kara (Curtis) Chrystal, Kristin Thompson (Mark McGowan), Megan Johnson and Ross Johnson, and one great-granddaughter, Jennings McGowan.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Fred and Albert Hartkemeyer, and one sister, Matilda Bauman.
