Dora Jack, 85

Funeral service for Dora Jack, 85, Victor, was held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 24, at the Smith Funeral Home, Victor. She died Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

The Rev. Corby Johnson, United Methodist Church, Hampton, a family friend, officiated at the service.

Burial was in Victor Memorial Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established and memorials may be sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 485, Victor, Iowa 52347.

Dora Jack was born Oct. 20, 1928, in Belle Plaine, the daughter of Otto and Helen Phelps Holst.

She married Melvin Jack June 16, 1948, in Belle Plaine. The couple resided in rural Victor and later moved into Victor.

She enjoyed camping at the Iowa State Fair every year since 1948, spending time outdoors and watching the birds outside her window. She was proud of her children and always enjoyed visiting them at their homes.

She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their school events and activities. She was dedicated to the HLV Booster Club and could be found volunteering her time at the consession stands during sporting events. In the Victor community, she had inherited the nickname “Grandma,” which always brought a sparkle to her eye.

Jack is survived by her children, Linda (Rocky) Wallace, Montezuma; Denny (Vivian) Jack, Pleasantville; Connie (Keith) Kempf, Victor; Bruce (Kim) Jack, Hartwick, and Vicky (Dennis) Blum, Peosta; sisters, Viola Klink, Shellsburg, and Maxine Leonard, Marshalltown; sisters-in-law, Judy Holst, Brooklyn; Clara Jack, Victor; brother-in-law, Stan (Sherri) Jack, Gold Canyon, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Jack, in 1992; her parents; brothers, John and Mike Holst; sister, Zola Catron; grandson, Trent Cheney; infant granddaughter, Terri Cheney, and son-in-law, LeeRoy Cheney.
