LeRoy John Oldfield, 84, of Marion died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

A funeral service took place on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services in Marion by Rodney Bluml. Visitation was one hour prior to the service. Burial was at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion with military honors by American Legion Post 298.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; four children, Randy Oldfield of Newton, Kristi Oldfield and Amber Oldfield, both of Cedar Rapids, and Jeremy Kuczynski of Marion; his brother, Jerry (Sue) Oldfield of Mineola, Texas; six grandchildren, Rhandyn, Rheagan, Zariell, Zyndrik, Makaila and Johnathan; a special niece, Linda Breckenridge of Newton; and many other family and friends.

Roy was born Sept. 29, 1926, in Ladora, Iowa, the son of LeRoy and Geneva (Faber) Oldfield. He served in the U.S. Navy 7th Fleet during World War II. In 1960, he married Helen Nanneman in Kansas City, Mo. Roy managed theaters for many years, including the Plaza Theaters and the Paramount Theater. He then worked in production for Quaker Oats, retiring in 1991 after 16 years.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and had many diverse hobbies, including traveling on his motorcycle, fishing, playing poker, and panning for gold. Roy was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 298 in Marion and VFW Post 788 in Cedar Rapids.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sherry Addy; and two sisters, Katie Opperud and Ramona Dvorak.

A memorial fund has been established.
