BLANCHE POWELL
MarengoBlanche Ella Katherine Powell was born Jan. 14, 1915, in Iowa Township, Iowa County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Adolph and Mathilda (Hopp) Schwarting. She attended Immanuel Parochial School, rural Williamsburg. Blanche was united in marriage to Byron H. Powell, in Sedalia, Mo., on Sept. 27, 1938. Together they farmed 38 years in the South English area, until moving to Marengo in 1985.
Blanche was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. She was a farm helper and a seamstress all her life. She also enjoyed crocheting and gardening.
Blanche died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo, at the age of 99 years.
She is survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded by her parents; husband Byron; three brothers; Raymond, Milford and Wilford Schwarting; and a sister, Ruth Von Lienen.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. The Rev. Carl Cloeter will officiate. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery, Marengo, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
A memorial has been established for the Lutheran Interparish School.
Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg, is handling arrangements.
