Lou Ann Martinson, 59

Memorial service for Lou Ann Martinson, 59, Williamsburg, was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg. She died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, following a long, courageous battle with cancer.

The Rev. Richard Meyer officiated at the service.

Inurnment will be at the East York Cemetery at a later date.

A memorial fund has been established.

Lou Ann Martinson was born April 15, 1954, in Williamsburg, the daughter of George and Rita Costello Stahl. She attended the Williamsburg schools and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1972.

She married Duane Martinson May 25, 1974, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Homestead. The couple had four sons, Shawn, Corey, Nick and Vince. They later divorced.

She worked for many years with the family at the Raider Drive In. She was a lunch lady at the Williamsburg High School for a short time. She also worked at several businesses in Williamsburg. Most recently, she was employed as a medical receptionist with Mercy Family Practice, Williamsburg.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the bell choir. She also belonged to the Williamsburg VFW Auxiliary.

She enjoyed reading, knitting and trips to Riverside with her friends. She loved gardening and growing flowers and plants. She was very family oriented and cherished every moment she spent with her grandchildren.

Martinson is survived by four sons, Shawn Martinson (Amanda Finnegan), Williamsburg; Corey Martinson, Williamsburg; Nick (Stephanie) Martinson, Ely, and Vince (Niki) Martinson, Williamsburg; five grandchildren, Alexis Martinson, Connor Finnegan, Clayton Martinson, William Martinson and KayLynn Martinson; her parents, George and Rita Stahl, Williamsburg; two brothers, Gary (Judy) Stahl, Williamsburg, and Stuart (Pam) Stahl, Ankeny, and five sisters, Marsha White, Williamsburg; Sheri (Garth) Wetjen, Williamsburg; Barb (Dennis) Grauer, Oxford; Lori (Tom) Beemer, Iowa City, and Michelle (Doug) Sims, Marengo.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and a grandchild.
