Williamsburg–Erna Christina Wardenburg was born March 23, 1909 in York Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Basil and Frieda Schuerman Zuber. She was baptized on April 26, 1909 at St. John’s Lutheran Church and confirmed April 9, 1922 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. She attended school at St. John’s Lutheran School near Homestead. Erna was united in marriage to Edwin F. H. Wardenburg on February 11, 1931 at St John’s Lutheran Church near Homestead. The couple farmed in York Township until 1970, when they moved to Williamsburg. Erna became a resident at Colonial Manor in Amana in October of 2003. She worked a number of years at the Middle America Motel as a housekeeper. Erna was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Erna died Sunday, March 28, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids after a sudden illness at the age of 95 years and 5 days. Erna is survived by her daughter Lois Jean Arp and husband Jon Lyn of Williamsburg; a sister: Ruth Sandersfeld of Williamsburg; six grandchildren: Lori McDowell, Lisa Arp, Joel Arp, Cindy Ruchotzke, Audrey Dahl and Ronald Read; four great grandchildren: Morgan McDowell, Tyler Jordon, Ryan Ruchotzke and Jordon Ruchotzke. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband in October of 1972, two daughters: an infant Kaye and Joann Read in March 2000, three sisters: Lydia Olson, Hildegard Stohlmann and Norma Rudin, and a brother Eugene Zuber. Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Rev. Carl Cloeter will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 30, 2004 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Memorials are for St. Paul Lutheran Church.
