Evelyn Davies

Funeral service for Evelyn Davies, a devoted wife and mother, was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Indianola. She died peacefully early Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, in West Des Moines.

Family burial service followed.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Presbyterian Church.

Evelyn Ruth Davies was born to Herman and Luella (Engelbert) Olson, [at Conroy, Iowa, 12 Sept 1919] one of eight children. Her mother died when she was 12.

She met James R. Davies and wed in 1944. They were married for 65 years. He was serving in the Army and after the war, they attended Iowa State University.

She was a very active member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church, serving in lay positions in the local church, the presbytery and the synod and was a delegate to the national church’s general assembly.

She later took art lessons, becoming accomplished in oil painting, with many of her works decorating the family home.

After her husband’s retirement from a lengthy career at People’s Trust and Saving Bank, she helped as he organized tours for the bank’s seniors club. These tours gave them the chance to travel widely in the United States and to the British Isles, Norway and Europe.

She was a member of PEO.

She resided in the memory care unit of Windsor Manor in Indianola for the final four years of her life.

Davies is survived by her sons, David (Bonnie), Ankeny; Paul (Nita), Albany, Ore., and Keith, Indianola; grandchildren, Eric, Denver, Colo.; Jason, Cedar Rapids; Michael, Cedar Rapids, and Carla, Indianola; great-grandson, Carson Crouse, Indianola; sister, Ann Johnson, Coon Rapids; brother, Max Olson, Cambridge, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dec. 12, 2009, and five siblings.
