Vearn Nienhueser, 93

Funeral service for Vearn Nienhueser, 93, Sidney, Neb., was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Trinity Lutheran South Divide Church. He died Saturday evening, Jan. 4, 2014, at the Golden Living Center, Sidney.

The Rev. Daniel Larson officiated at the service.

Burial was in the South Divide Cemetery with military honors.

Memorials may be made to The Lutheran Hour or the church.

Vearn Martin Nienhueser was born Jan. 20, 1920, the son of William Henry and Augusta Marie (Utecht) Nienhueser, on the farm at Kenesaw, Neb. In 1928, the family moved to Haxton, Colo., and to Sidney in 1934.

He was confirmed in the South Divide Church June 2, 1935. In October of 1941, he joined the United States Army, serving his country during World War II. He received an honorable discharge in October of 1945.

He returned to the family farm and worked with his father and brother, Ray.

He married Beverly Bailey Nov. 19, 1952, in Denver, Colo. The couple had four children. He lived on the family farm until the time of his death.

He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran South Divide and was active on several boards. He was a longtime member of Lutheran Laymen’s League, holding various offices, a member of Farm Bureau and served on the board from 1972 to 2004.

Nienhueser is survived by his children, Martin (Krysti) Sidney; Peggy (Lyle) Grimm, North English; Eugene (Marleen) and Bruce (Lisa), all Sidney; one brother, Ray (Dorothy) Sidney; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Nienhueser, Sidney; Velma Bailey, Paxton, Neb., and Frieda Bailey, Wymore, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Shaun (Mikki) Nienhueser, Ericka Nienhueser, Jason (Hannah) Grimm, Brittney Grimm, Heidi Nienhueser, Riley (Mandi) Nienhueser and Tanner Nienhueser; two great-grandchildren, Creighton Nienhueser and Elliot Grimm, and numerous extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, in 2007; his parents; four brothers, Herbert, Victor, Clifford and Arthur; four sisters, Irene Fischer, Mable Tegtmeier, Helen Koester and Eldora Schubarth; one grandson, Chad Nienhueser, and numerous extended family members.
