NEWHALL: Marion R. Werning, 69, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following an extended illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 3, 2014 at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, with Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery near Newhall. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., on Thursday at the church in Newhall. Memorials may be directed to the church.

Marion was born August 25, 1944 in Newhall to Harvey and Ruth (Zobel) Werning
and graduated from Newhall Consolidated Schools in 1962.

Marion was a lifelong farmer in the Newhall area. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and watching sports--especially the New York Yankees.

He is survived by his sister, Marlys (Robert) Frimml of Newhall; his brother, Virgil (Holly) Werning of Ely; his nieces and nephews, Linda Timm and Jennifer (Mehrdad) Akbar, all of Bentonville, Arkansas, Chris (Julie) Frimml of Atkins, Matt Frimml of Newhall, Wendy (Tim) Wheeler of Solon, and Kami Jo Upah of Blairstown; and several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
