Shirley Long, 73

Funeral service for Shirley K. Long, 73, Marengo, formerly of Williamsburg, was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. She died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at her home.

The Rev. Matt German officiated at the service.

Burial was in East York Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.

Shirley Kay Long was born May 1, 1940, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Edmund Chester and Coretha Huffman Fenton. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1958.

She married Thomas Robert Long May 15, 1960, at Beacon Methodist Church. She worked as a nurses’ aid at the Oskaloosa Hospital and later as a CNA and CMA and in housekeeping at Hillside Estate from 1976 to 1996.

She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends, especially the grandchildren. She also volunteered at the Senior Dining program.

Long is survived by her sons, Tom Jr. (Sheila) Long, Marengo, and Ed (Jill) Long, Malcom; six grandchildren, Cory Long (Amanda Rich), Texas; Heath (Ashley) Long, Marengo; A.J. Long, Malcom; Zach Long, Marengo, and Katie and Olivia Long, Colfax; one great-grandchild, Avia Long, Texas; one brother, Jerry (Joy) Fenton, Oskaloosa, and one sister Mary (Howard) Gay, Oskaloosa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1998; her parents and one brother, Don Fenton.
