Marguertie Wendt, 96

Memorial service for Marguerite A. Wendt, 96, South English, was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, North English. She died Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

Burial will be at a later date.

A general memorial fund has been established.

Marguerite Anne Wendt was born Oct. 8, 1917, near Millersburg, the daughter of Alvin and Leita (Lanning) Dietze. She grew up in the Millersburg community and graduated from Millersburg High School.

She married Charles E. King and they later divorced.

She married and was widowed by husbands Charles E. Allen and Paul Wendt.

She worked many years in the dietary department at the University of Iowa. She attended the Wellman Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to senior dining, eating out and doing crossword puzzles. She had lived the last 15 years in South English with her son, Terry, and his wife, June.

Wendt is survived by her children, Jacqueline (Richard) Stoltzfus, Johnstown, Colo.; Phyllis (Kevin) Sauter, rural Deep River; Charles (Mary) King, Kansas City, Mo.; Terry (June) Allen, South English; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Edna Hutton, Worth, Ill.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Rick Allen; two brothers, Vaughn and Melvin Dietze; two sisters, Mildred Wetherell and Virginia Geiger, and a great-grandson, Matthew Agnew.
