Janet Brown, 82

Funeral service for Janet M. Brown, 82, Williamsburg, formerly of Ladora and Robins, was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. She died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at Highland Ridge Care Center, Williamsburg.

Burial was in the Ohio Cemetery, rural Ladora.

A memorial fund has been established.

Janet Mae Brown was born May 23, 1931, at the home of her parents, Orlo and Blanche Hevener Stoner, in Ladora. She attended grade school in Ladora until her family moved to Marengo. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1951 and worked at Cedar Rapids Engineering and Collins Radio, Cedar Rapids, for five years.

She married Thomas Lavern Brown, Ladora, Nov. 4, 1956, at the Marengo Presbyterian Church. They lived on their family farm south of Ladora for 44 years. The couple built a new house in Robins in 2001 and resided there until 2013 when they moved to Highland Ridge, Williamsburg.

In addition to being a homemaker, she was an active member of Fundamental Gospel Church for 45 years, where she taught children’s Sunday school and was a frequent leader and participant of the women’s Missionary Society.

After moving to Robbins, she attended Faith Bible Church and its Primetimers lunch group. She was also active in the Iowa County Cattlemen’s Association Cowbelles, serving as membership chair.

Brown is survived by her husband, Thomas L. Brown, Williamsburg; her children, Gary (Amy) Brown, Atlanta, Ga.; Brian (Denise) Brown, Robins, and Betsy (Mitchell) Hilt, Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, April (Nicholas) Nelson and Caitlin Brown, Ames; Christy Cheung, Atlanta, Ga.; Harrison Hilt, Knoxville, Tenn., and Hayden and Lydia Hilt, Nashville; one sister, Harriet Siek, Blairstown; sister-in-law, Kathryn Brown and Margery (Ed) McAdam, Victor, and Marlys Brown, North English, and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Marion, and brothers-in-aw, Henry Siek and Bill Brown.
