Funeral service for Troy L. Werning, 44, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Newhall, was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at St. John Lutheran Church, Newhall. He died Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital following a sudden illness.

The Rev. Steven Rempfer officiated at the service.

Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery, near Newhall.

A memorial fund has been established.

Troy L. Werning was born April 8, 1969, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Vernon and Tammy (Pickett) Werning. He graduated from Benton Community High School in 1987 and from the University of Northern Iowa in 1992.

He was employed as a project manager at Rockwell Collins, Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed golfing, basketball, football and was an avid UNI sports fan.

Werning is survived by his parents, Vernon and Tammy Werning, Newhall; one brother, Scott Werning, Newhall; his maternal grandmother, Ruth Hinkel, Iowa City, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
