Funeral service for Larry D. Hoth, 68, Marengo, formerly of Oelwein, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral home, Oelwein. He died Friday evening, Aug. 30, 2013, at his home with his family at his side.
The Rev. Connie Markle officiated at the service.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.
Memorials may be made to Essence of Life Hospice, Amana.
Larry Dean Hoth was born Jan. 9, 1945, at Oelwein, the son of William Albert and Carrie (Barnes) Hoth. He graduated from Oelwein Community High School in 1963.
He married Jeannette Arlene Duffy Feb. 7, 1965, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein. He was a plumber for 30 years. He worked at Chandler Co. in Oelwein, Chamberlain’s in Waterloo, Swiss Valley Farms for nine years and then at Lagerstrom’s Plumbing and Heating in Oelwein from 1976 to 1994. He then continued his work at Northwest Furnace in Fort Dodge, Rork Furnace in Otho and retired in 2007 from Henniger Plumbing and Heating in Clarion.
He continued to work after his retirement, doing handiman repairs and also working at the printing company in Marengo.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Oelwein. He enjoyed remodeling, woodworking, refinishing furniture, fishing, storytelling, spending time with family and relaxing on the Mississippi.
Hoth is survived by his wife, Jeannette, Marengo; three children, Jodi and David Allen, Des Moines; John and Madonna Hoth, Marion, and Jennifer Hoth and Bob McMurrin, Independence; five grandchildren, Lauren Hoth, Austin Hoth, Desiree Allen, Blake Hoth and Brady Clark; one sister, Lois Boies, Oelwein; his mother-in-law, Mert Duffy, Guttenberg; one sister-in-law, Carolyn and Jeff Minnich, Carroll; one brother-in-law, David Duffy, Marengo, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eugene; one sister, Doris Carolan, and his father-in-law, Raymond Duffy.
