Lester Fetzer, 92

Funeral Mass for Lester R. Fetzer, 92, Williamsburg, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg. He died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at Highland Ridge Care Center.

The Rev. Joseph Roost will officiate at the service.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery with military rites. Pall bearers will be Brian Fetzer, Seth Fetzer, Jamie Fetzer, Patrick Fetzer, Casey Fetzer, Zachary Fetzer, Nathan Stahl and Nicholas Stanerson. Honorary pall bearers will be Rachel Hanson, Nicole Bryan, Natalie Maas, Andrea Dorn, Kaitlyn Embury, Kristin Embury, Abby Stanerson, Sarah Gengler, Erica Gengler and Paige Stahl.

Memorials may be made to Iburg Poulson VFW Post 8797, St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Highland Ridge Care Center.

Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Williamsburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Lester Richard Fetzer was born Aug. 25, 1920, near Williamsburg, the son of Walter Jonathan and Elsie Marie (Gerard) Fetzer. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1938. He served in the United States Army Air Corp as a sergeant during World War II.

He married Doris Jean Frederick April 23, 1949, in Cedar Rapids. He farmed west of Williamsburg all of his life, retiring in 1985.

The couple moved to Williamsburg in 1980 and then to the Highland Ridge Presbyterian Home in the spring of 2007.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Iburg Poulson VFW Post 8797. He enjoyed gardening, dancing, playing cards, spending time with grandchildren, riding his bicycle, traveling and taking evening walks.

Fetzer is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean; eight children, Michael and Bernita Fetzer, Cedar Rapids; David and Jeannie Fetzer, Williamsburg; Gerald and Sandy Fetzer, Marion; Diane and Bob Embury, Plattsmouth, Neb.; Kevin and Susan Fetzer, Lancaster, Mass.; Sheila and Craig Stanerson, Williamsburg; Denise and Paul Gengler, LeMars, and Pamela and Stuart, Stahl, Ankeny; 27 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Fetzer, San Antonio, Texas, and Howard and Ann Fetzer, Downers Grove, Ill., and three sisters, Shirley and James Alberhasky and Marlene and Robert Seydel, all Iowa City, and Mary Jane Schenkal, Normal, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven siblings, Lloyd Fezter, Charles (Barney) Fetzer, Margaret Yoder, Raymond Fetzer and three in infancy.
