Memorial service for Glen W. Langlas, 95, Williamsburg, was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg. He died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Highland Ridge Care Center, Williamsburg.

The Rev. Kip Murphy officiated at the service.

Inurnment will be at a later date.

Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.klosterfuneralhome.com.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Highland Ridge, Williamsburg.

Glen Willard Langlas was born April 29, 1918, in rural Marengo, the son of William Charles and Ella Wiese Langlas. He attended Iowa County schools and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946. He was an air transport commander, stationed in England, France, Germany and Belgium. He returned to the states and farmed until 1956, when he started a nitrogen fertilizer business. He sold the business 10 years later to Farmers Coop, Conroy, and continued working with them in the agronomy field until his retirement in 1984.

He married Evelyn O’Brien Aug. 18, 1982, in Camdenton, Mo.

He was a member of Marengo American Legion Post 76 and Williamsburg VFW Post 8797, where he served as commander for year. He enjoyed ballroom dancing. While he was in the service, he met Bob Hope and Jerry Colona. He enjoyed playing baseball and was an avid Cubs and Hawkeyes fan. He belonged to the I-Cubs for over 40 years.

He was also a member of the Marengo Golf Club and First Presbyterian Church, Williamsbug.

Langlas is survived by his wife, Evelyn; a niece, Margaret Stein, Chicago, Ill.; a nephew, Bill Schmidt, Indialantic, Fla., and stepchildren, Don and Cathy O’Brien, Ankeny; Mike and Mic O’Brien, Marion, and Dennis and Diane O’Brien, Dublin, Ohio; Lois and Gary Payment, Coon Rapids, Minn., and Barb and Joel Kimm, Norway.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marian Schmidt.
