Velma Hofmaster, 96

Funeral service for Velma Hofmaster, 96, Cedar Rapids, was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church. She died Friday, July 19, 2013.

Burial was in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or Trinity Lutheran Church.

Velma Hofmaster was born Oct. 26, 1916, in Iowa County, the daughter of Roy and Emily Collingwood.

She married Harold Hofmaster in 1936. The couple farmed in the Swisher area for many years.

She was a member of the College Circle Club and the Joy Group. Her hobbies included fishing, bird watching, baking and gardening.

She was so caring and loving, she was always surrounded by family and friends. She endured many challenges over the years but handled them with grace and resiliency. She touched many lives in many ways and will be missed by all who knew her.

Hofmaster is survived by her children, Janice McCrabb and Rick and Pat Hofmaster; grandchildren, Renee Pityer, Kevin and Gaetana Grinder, Todd and Janelle Pityer, Donna and Gregg Nichols, Brian and JaneAnn Becicka, Daryl Becicka and Jennifer and Darin Goss; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marva Wilson and Doris VonAhsen, and brothers, Milford and Bernice and Hawley and Gwen Collingwood.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughters, Eileen Grinder and Sandra Becicka; brothers, Gerald and Sylvan Collingwood, and sisters, Dorothy Russbolt [Rusbult] and Gladys Kempfert.
