Pauline Gaddis (Geb. Fink) age 76 of Plano, Texas formerly of High Amana, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital after a short illness.

Pauline was born on November 23, 1936 in Tariverde in the Province of Dobrutscha, Romania to Friedrich and Emma Fink. Her family resided in Tariverde, Romania during her early years. They lived in Melnick, Bohemia, Czechslovakia in 1944-1945. After a brief return by her family to Romania in 1945 Pauline’s family lived in a refugee camp in Miltenberg am Main, Germany from 1946 to 1952. Subsequently, the family emigrated from Germany to the United States. They entered through Ellis Island in 1952. Her family first settled briefly in northern Missouri and then moved to High Amana, Iowa in 1953.

She graduated from the Amana High School in 1954 and the Cedar Rapids Business School in 1955. She then was employed at the Linn County Court House in Cedar Rapids.

She was united in marriage to Roger Gaddis of East Amana on April 17, 1955 at the First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. Pauline then moved to Germany where she joined her husband who was serving there in the U.S. Army. There, Pauline and Roger were able to reunite with Pauline’s extended family.

Most of their years were spent in Kansas, Maryland and now in Plano, Texas. Survivors include her husband Roger D. Gaddis, her sister Gerda Holub of Amana, her brother Fred Finch (Laura) of Keyes, California, her children, Merle Gaddis and his wife, Kelly of Olathe, Kansas, Robert Gaddis of Redondo Beach, California, Melissa Gaddis Toohey and her husband Peter of Plano, Texas, five grandchildren, Brenden, Sofia and Schaefer Toohey and Melissa and Kristin Gaddis. Included are her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Pat Hergert and nine nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Adolfine Erika and Jutta Victoria.

Memorial service and internment will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the gravesite in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Pauline will be greatly missed by family and friends. Her grace and spirit will be remembered by all. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Salvation Army, American Red Cross or a charity of your choice.
