Larry Murphy, 75

Larry G. Murphy, 75, Marengo, died Friday, June 28, 2013, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and Ronald McDonald House, Iowa City.

Larry Gene Murphy was born Oct. 16, 1937, the son of Clifford E. and Edith A. (Kluber) Murphy, in Guernsey. He attended school through the 10th grade before joining the Army and serving his country for two years. He earned a radio communications degree while in Germany.

He married Lilian L. Jump Dec. 1, 1963, in Morrison, Ill., at the justice of the peace. He worked for SunLine Van Dyke in Cedar Rapids for 33 years.

He enjoyed gardening and tending to his flowers in his spare time.

Murphy is survived by three sisters, Marvel and Larry Schafbuch and Grace Tatge, all Marengo, and Marlene Sloan, Victor; stepchildren, Pamela and David Spoon, Beardstown, Ill., and Arthur and Alice Stephens, Silverdale, Wash.; four grandchildren, Tammy and Pat Cooper, Beardstown; Sonna and David Eghers, Quincy, Ill.; Arthur and Melissa Stephens Jr. and Dianne Southard, all Silverdale, Wash., and a granddaughter-in-law, Mona Spoon, Wheeling, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents; three brothers, Laverne, Ronald and Earle Murphy, and a grandson, Troy Spoon.
