Donn A. Haase, 73, Ely, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, of brain cancer at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Per his wishes, there will only be a family service at Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine, Monday, July 1. He was cremated with no interment scheduled.

Joe Kane, chaplain at the Hospice House of Mercy, officiated at the service.

Donn A. Haase was born March 6, 1940, in Toledo, the son of Milvoy and Gladys Haase. He married Marie VanDrew Jan. 14, 1964. The couple lived in Marengo for 38 years before moving to Ely in 2003.

He worked at Amana Refrigeration for 35 years until retiring. He was a hard worker both inside and outside of his home. He completely remodeled his home and took great pride in it and the yard where he had planted 28 trees and evergreens. In later years, he took up woodcarving, creating mostly weather vanes. He also made many items for his home and many other beautiful things.

The family would like to thank Hospice House of Mercy’s staff and chaplain Joe Kane for all of the care and compassion they showed Marie and her family.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; two sons, Mark, Fort Dodge, and Brett, Ely; one granddaughter, Marissa, Cedar Rapids; one sister, Darla and Duane Yount, Florida; one brother, Dennis Haase, Phoenix, Ariz.; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
