Loretta Michalek, 78

Funeral service for Loretta I. Michalek, 78, Victor, was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Victor. She died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids.

The Rev. Brian Shepley officiated at the service.

Loretta I. Michalek was born Sept. 27, 1934, in rural Victor, the daughter of John and Mary Wentland McDonald. She graduated from St. John’s Catholic School, Victor, and attended AIB College, Des Moines.

She married Robert Michalek May 8, 1954, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Victor. The couple made their home in Victor and she worked for Rohrer Brothers as a bookkeeper.

She enjoyed playing cards as well as working on crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She held a strong faith in the Catholic church and was also very proud of and dedicated to her family.

Michalek is survived by her husband, Robert, Victor; children, Robert Michalek, Overland Park, Kan.; Tim and Jileane Michalek, DeSoto, Kan.; Terry Michalek, Hinckley, Minn., and Sarah and Kenny Kaplan, Victor; sisters, Bernadine Roushar, Cedar Rapids; Mary and Don Sumpter, Brooklyn; Katherine and Laverne Dietrich, Newton, and Jeannette and Bill Holtz, Cedar Rapids; one sister-in-law, Mary Pilcher, Davenport; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marie DeMeulenaere, and three brothers-in-law, Wayne Kriegel, Jack Roushar and Bud DeMeulenaere.
