Katherine Corbett, 92

Funeral service for Katherine “Kay” Corbett, 92, Vinton, was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 10, at First Christian Church, Vinton. She died Friday, June 7, 2013, at Windsor Manor Assisted Living, Vinton.

The Rev. Connie Wacht officiated at the service.

Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton.

A memorial fund has been established.

Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton, was in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.phillipsfuneralhomes.com.

Katherine “Kay” Corbett was born Aug. 24, 1920, in Paris, Ill., the daughter of Oliver and Florence Ogle Claybaugh. She graduated from Paris High School in 1938 and moved to Vinton in 1940.

She married Arthur Chapin Corbett Jan. 3, 1948, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Farmers Savings Bank, formerly Brenton Bank, Vinton.

The couple farmed south of Vinton on Art’s family farm that was established in 1852. She was a devoted farm wife and mother. The couple enjoyed square dancing and spent over 15 years wintering in Venice, Fla. He died Feb. 11, 2012.

She was a member of Modern Entertainers and First Christian Church, Vinton. She loved spending time with her family, going places with her daughters and having quiet visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Corbett is survived by three daughters, Elaine and Terry Harrington, Watkins; Gwynne and John Whitson and Barbara and Jim Salger, all Vinton; six grandchildren, Jason and Tosha Whitson, West Des Moines; Lisa and Brian Henning, Denver, Colo.; Nichole and Mike Rinholen, Newhall; Matthew and Amy Salger, Vinton; Sean and Alicia Salger, Olin, and Michelle and Cole Knudsen, Watkins; 11 great-grandchildren, Bailey, Ashton and Abigail Whitson, Jack and Kaden Henning, Noah and Ava Rinholen, Gavin and Reagan Salger, Danica Salger and Cale Knudsen; one sister, Betty Wright, Vinton, and special cousins of Art’s, Bob and Ginny Chapin, Venice, Fla.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Forest and Dick Claybaugh.
