Gene “Pete” Van Waus, 80

Gene J. “Pete” Van Waus, 80, Victor, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn. Private family services will be held.

Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, was in charge of arrangements.

Gene Joseph Van Waus was born Sept. 20, 1932, in Victor, the son of Arnold and Lylia Mitchell Van Waus. He graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School, Victor, and served in the U.S. Army for two years, stationed in Germany and Belgium during the Korean War.

He farmed and also worked for Krauss Furniture, Amana. He married Ruth Slaymaker in 1963 in Ladora.

He was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church, Victor. Besides farming, he enjoyed gardening and woodworking.

Van Waus is survived by his stepdaughter, Deb York; his nephews, Bill Van Waus, Dave Van Waus, Russell Van Waus and Daniel Van Waus, and one niece, Joan Van Waus Robinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Van Waus, and one nephew, Thomas.
