James McCarty, 83

Funeral Mass for James F. McCarty, 83, Parnell, was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 11, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg. He died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at his home.

The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service.

Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Parnell.

Pallbearers were Dave Quiram, Greg Long, Dennis Long, Jim Nebel, Ryan Malloy and Dan Weber.

Memorials may be made to Parnell First Responders and St. Joseph Cemetery.

James Francis McCarty was born April 30, 1929, near Parnell, the son of Daniel and Catherine (Weldon) McCarty. He graduated from Parnell High School. He worked at Amana Refrigeration for 10 years, then went to work at Armstrong’s Department Store, Cedar Rapids, where he worked in the men’s clothing section for 29 years, retiring in 1988.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Parnell, and the Knights of Columbus.

McCarty is survived by one niece, Mary and Jim Nebel, Washington; three nephews, Dan and Andrea Weber, Newhall; Dennis and Pat Long and Greg and Laurie Long, all Aurora, Ill., and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Daniel Paul McCarty; three sisters, Bernadette Long, Marguerite Crane and Therese Weber, and two nieces, Catherine Malloy and Cheryl Long.
